Today Sigma has released tree high-end Art series lenses, two primes and one zoom. The lenses are designed for Sigma, Canon and Nikon mount cameras and are full frame compatible.
First lets take a look at the 135mm f1.8 DG HSM prime telephoto lens. The lens features a hypersonic ring type focus motor that delivers fast and reliable autofocus. Also featuring 9 rounded aperture blades, the lens should offer an exceptional bokeh. Sigma has stated that this new lens will offer the ability to resolve 50MP or higher images, something that will become more apparent int he future since DSLR’s are increasing in resolution each iteration. Finally the lens offers a dust and splashproof design, but all of this comes with a downside, the weight! This lens weighs in at 1130g/40.2oz, which is certainly hefty for a prime lens!
Sigma has also created a ultra-wide 14mm F1.8 DG HSM, which they claim is the ‘world’s first and only F1.8 ultra-wide-angle lens.’ The lens is composed of 16 elements, with 3 FLD (low dispersion) elements and 4 SLD (super low dispersion), with a 9 bladed rounded aperture. This lens should be outstanding for astrophotography as the large aperture will allow lots of light in, and the very large 80mm aspherical front element will ‘deliver outstanding image quality from the center to the edges.’
Finally but certainly not least is the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Art. This lens features electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism (for Nikon) which will deliver smooth aperture changes, a real benefit for video users. It also features three SLD and four aspherical, nine bladed rounded aperture and optical image stabilization. The lens will use a 82mm front filter element and is weather sealed.
All of these lenses will be compatible with the USB dock which allows for fine tuning of the autofocus.
Pricing and availability for all three lenses will be announced at a later date. (click here for full press release)
